Borough Elections 2012

On Thursday 3rd May 2012 the polling stations will open for residents to cast  votes for their local Borough Candidate.

Maidstone and the Weald, being classed as a 2nd tier district, elects one third of its Borough Council seats covering Maidstone Borough Council and Tunbridge Wells Borough Council.

Each elected Borough Councillor holds the seat for a 4 year term and then runs for re-election.

Add to this the additional 4 yearly County Council positions and the inevitable General Elections and the result is a very busy and demanding cycle. Not forgetting that we also need to elect our representatives for the European Parliament.

What isn't usually understood is that all this is done by local volunteers through an offfice that we run through our local fundraising efforts. We receive no financial assistance from the government or tax payers, so any help is appreciated.

Not only do we need your vote on election day and the support that you will be giving out team of Candidates but if you would like to help in any way during the electioneering process, be it by delivering leaflets, putting up a poster or just doing what you can to convince family, friends and neighbours that we are the ones to vote for, please do get in touch. It's not just hard work doing all that we can for our communities but it's an enjoyable and rewarding experience as well.

Without this we would not be able to achieve all that we do.

Take a look on this page to see who your local Candidate is and if you are able, please offer them your support.

Maidstone Borough Conservative Group, tried in 2010 to save public money by changing the Borough Elections to a set 4yr cycle. If we had been succesful this would have meant that  all Wards would run elections at the same time. This would have saved thousands of pounds of council tax payers money and a reason many other Local Councils have made this change.

We were blocked from doing this by the local Liberals, even though over 70% of local residents who responded to a Borough wide survey wanted the changes.

The liberals reason? They were concerned they would suffer politically!

Even their fight for the Alternative Voting system would have cost the country millions of pounds, that we simply do not have, as Labour left us financially on our knees. They may well blame global issues but through spending all of our money in the good times, we were left with nothing for the rainy day.

Thankfully we won the NO2AV referendum by a landslide and will continue to fight to protect every penny that we can of your money.

Proof that  the local Conservative team put the needs and wellbeing of residents first and why we need your help.

Can we help you?
